On Thursday, December 18th, the well-respected The Economist magazine printed a feature story on the results of our recently completed flagship US study of MDMA-assisted Psychotherapy for the Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. On Thursday, November 13, Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN also presented a glowing report of the study, as did Nature News.


The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is a membership-based, IRS-approved 501 (c) (3) non-profit research and educational organization. We assist scientists to design, fund, obtain approval for and report on studies into the risks and benefits of MDMA, psychedelic drugs and marijuana.

MAPS' mission is to sponsor scientific research designed to develop psychedelics and marijuana into FDA-approved prescription medicines, and to educate the public honestly about the risks and benefits of these drugs. Read our strategy statement for more information.

We need your support so together we can make a difference. In addition to general membership donations, MAPS is seeking to raise funds for specific research projects. These are our funding priorities and here are our financial reports.

12/10/08MAPS researchers Michael Mithoefer MD, Annie Mithoefer BSN, and June May Ruse PhD, have created a revised version of MAPS MDMA/PTSD treatment manual. The new version of the manual builds on a previous manual from 2005, and includes lessons learned from our recently completed US MDMA/PTSD pilot study.

12/1/08The Winter 2008 - 2009 MAPS Bulletin featuring our Fiscal Year 2007-2008 report is now available online as a single PDF file and as individual PDF Files.
11/13/08MAPS-sponsored researcher Michael Mithoefer MD presented a poster about our flagship MDMA-assisted psychotherapy study for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). ISTSS is the largest organization in the world for researchers and therapists working with PTSD patients. The 24th annual conference took place in Chicago from November 13th through 15th.
11/7/08The Canadian Institutional Review Board (IRB) granted conditional approval for our MDMA/PTSD protocol.
11/6/08Chemic Labs submitted to NIDA a revised Volcano Vaporizer protocol (PDF) and a response to NIDA's June 16, 2008, critique of our protocol (PDF). We submitted the protocol on January 16, 2008, along with three letters of support from peer reviewers, after waiting fruitlessly for over 2 years for NIDA to respond to our September 2005 reply to its August 2005 critique of our initial protocol, originally submitted in June 2003. We have unsuccessfully been seeking to purchase 10 grams for vaporizer research for over 5 1/2 years!

MAPS is pleased to present the original work of two amazing Visionary Artists: Roberto Venosa and Dean Chamberlain. We are now proudly offering four special signed and numbered limited-edition prints from Dean Chamberlain's Psychedelic Pioneers series (at left), as well as limited-edition prints of Robert Venosa's portrait of Albert Hofmann, signed by Albert Hofmann himself (at right). Proceeds from the sale of these portraits will be equally divided between MAPS-sponsored psychedelic research and the respective artists.

Both Dean Chamberlain's portraits of Albert Hofmann, Laura Huxley, Ann & Sasha Shulgin and Ram Dass as well as Roberto Venosa's portrait of Albert Hofmann are all available for purchase in the MAPS Online Store. These portraits are not only a good investment and would look great on your wall, but they are also a major fundraising tool for MAPS' research projects!

MARIJUANA RESEARCH
Prof. Craker is awaiting a recommendation in his lawsuit against DEA for refusing to license a MAPS-sponsored marijuana production facility.

On Feb. 12, 2007 MAPS won its lawsuit against the DEA, when the DEA's Law Judge issued a non-binding ruling that the DEA grant a Schedule I license to Prof. Craker for his MAPS-sponsored medical marijuana production facility.
